EDUCATION

Colvill Kids Preschool provides preschool services to children 3 to 5-years-old. Our teachers are all licensed by the Minnesota State Board of Education. Our curriculum aligns with the Red Wing Public Schools curriculum. Approximately 25% of the children attending Colvill Kids Preschool have special education needs and are supported by the special education staff in that environment.

Community Education Early Childhood Preschool program serves preschool children in the Cannon Falls area between the ages of three and five.  Learning opportunities are provided for children at all levels of ability.  Licensed early childhood preschool teachers, experienced preschool teachers, early childhood special education teachers and consultants and trained assistants work together as a team to provide children with positive learning experiences.

The Preschool program serves the learning needs of 3 - 5 year olds with a half day curriculum of school readiness activities that include art, music, storytelling and reading readiness, science and discovery, creative dramatics, emerging writing and early literacy skills, numbers, letters and more. The program aims to educate the “whole child” by offering a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets individual needs. Staff members take active observational, directive of skills, and evaluative tools throughout all sessions to enhance children’s learning.

Red Wing Youth Outreach (RWYOP) School-based programming serves high school and middle school aged students, with one on one and group support sessions, life coaching, and life skills education opportunities. School personnel, Goodhue County Court and Social Services personnel, parents and friends refer students. At–risk youth receive help with issues such as, chemical health, mental health and social issues. All services are delivered by caring adult youth workers who serve as mentors, role models, advocates, and problem solvers.

The Y pals program is meeting some of our local youth’s most pressing needs: reducing substance use and involvement with crime, and increasing success in school.  The Mentoring program targets at-risk youth as identified by school personnel, social workers and local youth outreach.  These programs fill a void in the community environment by focusing on improving the youth’s interpersonal skills, academic skills, and building leadership and character skills that will set them up to be productive, healthy adults. 

Goodhue County Education District - Student Educational Adventures (SEA) Program

Through the coordination of existing educational/recreational activities and community resource providers in Goodhue County, the Goodhue County Education District’s Student Educational Adventures (SEA) Program provides a variety of experiential education courses to high school students receiving services for Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD).  Since the SEA Program’s beginning in 1995, it has been a goal to provide the community with team building opportunities through the leadership of EBD students.  Using an experiential method of teaching, each of the five courses in the SEA Program are specifically designed to teach life-long skills (such as team building, decision making, service, leadership, conflict resolution, research, goal setting, and taking responsibility) to youth who typically struggle in those areas.

Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity is part of an international, nonprofit, ecumenical Christian effort to build affordable housing in partnership with low-income families. In addition to strengthening the communities in which we build by opening homeownership to families who otherwise might never own a home, Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for persons from all walks of life to foster community development by collectively sharing their talents and resources as they work side by side with our partner families constructing Habitat homes.

ProAct’s supported employment services help people with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment. Participants learn job readiness, basic work expectations, problem-solving and specific skill development to prepare them for independent employment through work, volunteering, classes, community experiences and personal support.

Rural counseling staff is dedicated to helping people who are troubled or hurting, using a holistic and family-oriented perspective.  A variety of therapeutic approaches are used to accommodate each person's needs and circumstances.  Services include: diagnostic/problem assessments, information and referral assistance, individual and family therapy, couple and marriage counseling, therapy and support groups, crisis consultations, personal growth programs.


Elder Network

The Peer Support program recruits, trains, supervises and manages older adult volunteers who offer one-on-one home visitation and support to older adults experiencing difficulty adjusting to life’s transition including mental and physical health.  These issues include depression, anxiety, grief, chemical dependency, and other stressors that put older adults at risk.  Professional staff provides 28 hours of training, case consultation and administrative services for support to volunteers.  The initial training and on-going in-service training provide the peer support volunteers with current health information and practices for the people they visit, as well as for themselves. The peer support volunteer can act as an early warning system when they observe changes that require attention.  Peer support volunteers also refer older adults to many other appropriate community and health care resources.

Seniors Helping Seniors peer support volunteers help other seniors who are experiencing distress in their lives.  When the frustrations of aging become too difficult to bear, sometimes the best help is finding someone who truly listens and understands.  Whether in one-on-one sessions, in open forums or in group support settings, the ultimate goal is to help each older adult achieve a better quality of life.


SARA (formerly GWSAS, Inc.) - Direct Services

SARA provides direct services to sexual assault victims (primary victims—those experiencing the assault, secondary victims—loved ones also traumatized by the assault) to assist victims as they deal with the emotional and physical trauma of sexual violence and begin to heal.  Advocates build trusting relationships with victims—serving as guide, support, confidant, and professional resource throughout the healing process.

RideAbility Registered Group lessons provide adaptive horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities, serving their families and the community.  The five week session is therapeutic as horseback riding has been shown to improve muscle tone, flexibility, and overall self-esteem of the riders in the program.  Families of our clients are strengthened as they take home the benefits they see while participating in a healthful, inspiring program.

Girls on the Run® and Girls on Track® are positive developmental youth programs that use running as a vehicle to influence social, cognitive, physical, emotional and psychological assets and development.  Our curriculum incorporates training for a 5k run/walk with lessons that inspire 3rd through 8th grade girls to develop essential life skills.

The Community Rec scholarship fund allows low income residents easier access to our programs.  Fees for classes are reduced with the backing of the scholarship fund determined by household income.  The scholarship is always confidential.


Red Wing Community Recreation - Summer Rec Park Program

The Summer Rec Park Program offers outdoor play and activities free of charge at local Red Wing parks during the summer months.  This program provides valuable recreational opportunities to kids ages 5 and older that will increase physical activity in a safe environment.  The program incorporates many of the good old-fashioned games of tag, relays, kickball, etc.  The program also includes t-ball for youth ages 5 – 8 in the afternoons (no charge).

Our transportation service provides individuals with effective, free rides to appointments for health reasons, as well as to other destinations in the community. The “Road to Recovery” gets people to life saving radiation treatments. However our other services also increase self-sufficiency by addressing the needs of caregivers to seek relief at times, encourage healthy socialization on a personal level, and provide access to the library for those unable to go on their own.

Goodhue County provides transportation, respite care, friendly visiting, in home library book drop-off & pick-up, chore services, and light housekeeping for people who have identified needs.


Lake City Food Shelf

Lake City Food Shelf will provide food and some food education as needed, to all those persons who come to our food shelf, who meet the criteria of 200% of poverty level as set by the USDA. At first time of service an interview of all new clients, reviews their needs and income of entire family.


Hunger Prevention Council of Pierce County, Inc.

The Hunger Prevention Council meets monthly with food pantry volunteers, agency providers and community members to coordinate services to effectively help the low income population receive their basic food needs.

Through services such as interpreting, translation, and advocacy, the program addresses immediate issues or concerns faced by Latinos. The program also provides services that promote education through guest speakers, and a monthly newsletter.


HOPE Coalition - Kids Count Abused Children's Program

Kids Count is a youth advocacy program that provides safety and support to youth ages 0 – 18 who have experienced abuse (emotional, physical, or sexual) or neglect or have witnessed violence.  The program is designed to help build self-sufficiency through support groups, educational resources, safety planning, supportive listening, field trips, and more.  Kids Count also provides parent education and support for parents of youth involved in Kids Count.

 

HOPE Coalition - Housing Support Services

The Housing Support Services program provides shelter, emergency financial assistance, and case management to homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless.  These services stabilize households and prevent future homelessness.

 

HOPE Coalition in Partnership with Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. – Community Care Fund & Economic Bridging

The Community Care Fund and Economic Bridging Program are emergency funds designed to assist with basic necessities such as rent, food, utilities, transportation, etc.  Funds are distributed to qualifying Goodhue, Wabasha, and Pierce County residents in financial crisis to prevent further, deepening crisis.  Clients receive an assessment, resources, and referrals.

 

Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. - Chamomile Transitional Housing

Chamomile Transitional Housing is a program which provides partially furnished housing, including utilities, and simultaneous case management and advocacy  including budgeting, life skills training, and landlord/tenant law training to homeless individuals and/or families and unaccompanied youth (17-21) to assist them with their goals and self-sufficiency, so they can move into and sustain affordable permanent housing.


Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. - Senior Advocacy and Caregiver Coaching

Advocates are available to respond and assist seniors and their caregivers with the multitude of issues they face as a person ages. Services include, but are not limited to, Medicare insurance counseling, resources and referrals, assistance with low income housing and programs, group education over the latest changes in insurance and other related issues, and guided help to limit frustration and increase self-sufficiency.  Advocacy, coaching, support groups, and follow-up are available for caregivers to decrease caregiver stress and enhance the value of caregiving.

Three Rivers Community Action, Inc.  - Home Delivered Meals

Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. Home Delivered Meal (HDM) program provides persons who are over 60 and homebound (temporarily or long-term) with a nutritious meal 5 days a week, that is suited for the health of older persons (diabetic, low sodium, low fat, etc.) regardless of their ability to pay (donations are requested).  Persons under 60 are served under special circumstance. Meals are delivered by community volunteers, annual home visit and assessment are done by professional staff members who assess and assist with referrals for nutrition, homecare, Medicare-related insurance and caregiver needs.

Fairview Seminary Home - Meals on Wheels

Fairview Seminary Home offers the Meals on Wheels program to seniors and others in need.  Meals on Wheels provides nutritious, hot and balanced meals to individuals who wish to remain independent but welcome assistance with meal preparation or are home bound.  The noon meals are delivered by volunteers Monday through Friday.  Having a visitor to the home is also another advantage of the program.  On weekends, we can deliver more meals on Friday to get the clients through the weekends if they would benefit from this service.  Some have family bring them meals.  Most do have groceries in their homes for other meals so probably eat soup, toast, or frozen meals over the weekends.

The Semcac Senior Dining Program provides seniors in Goodhue and Wabasha Counties with an opportunity to receive a low-cost, nutritious meal, enjoy the fellowship of neighbors and friends, and take part in programming and/or volunteer activities.  Our mission is to promote the independence, dignity, good health, and nutritional well being of older persons.


Red Wing Area Seniors, Inc. - Senior Home Work

Senior Home Work provides volunteer minor home repair services to low-moderate income seniors and individuals.  The goal is to help people stay safely in their homes and maintain their independence. Although home owners will be asked to help pay for the supplies if they are able, no labor costs will be charged for the work.


Goodhue County MN Chapter of the American Red Cross - Disaster Services Program

The Disaster Program has staff and trained volunteers who provide emergency food, clothing and shelter when a disaster occurs.  The chapter also will provide medical and mental health services as required by the clients we serve.  The program also provides community disaster education called “Be Red Cross Ready.”  This educational service informs citizens how to create a family disaster plan, including a family disaster kit.
